Queenstown woman dies in accident

Police on the Essequibo Coast are investigating the circumstances that led to an accident which claimed the life of a Queenstown housewife.

Dead is 54-year-old Nandranie Singh, 54, a housewife of Queenstown, Essequibo Court.

According to reports, the accident occurred around 6:45 on Tuesday evening on the Affiance Public Road, Essequibo Coast and involved motor car HB 5965 driven by a 23-year-old resident of Charity, Essequibo Coast.

Enquiries disclosed that the vehicle was allegedly speeding south along the eastern carriageway when it hit Singh who was crossing the road at the time.

It was noted that as a result of the impact, Singh sustained injuries and was rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital in an unconscious state. She succumbed to those injuries whilst receiving medical attention.

Based on information supplied by the police, a breathalyzer test was administered to the driver, the results of which came back negative.

Nevertheless, the driver remains in custody, assisting with the investigation.
