Woman on wounding charge after punching husband over slap

A woman was on Thursday charged with unlawfully wounding her husband after they had a drunken fight.

Lavern Stanley, 26, is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Lucian Stanley, on February 24th, 2018, in the Upper Mazaruni River, with intent to maim, disfigure/disable, or cause grievous bodily harm.

After the charge was read to her by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman in Georgetown, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that on the day in question, the accused and the complainant were drinking when an argument arose and the man slapped her. As a result of the slap, the woman punched her husband, causing him to receive injuries to his face from a knuckle ring that she was wearing at the time.

This information was supported by attorney Clyde Forde, who represented the accused. As a result of the details given by the prosecutor, the magistrate later granted the accused her release on $50,000 bail.

The matter was then adjourned until March 5th.
