An 18-year-old was yesterday remanded to prison on a charge that he robbed a police officer in the National Park.
The charge against Trayon Arthur states that on February 28th, at the National Park, in the company of others and armed with a pair of scissors, he robbed Neshan Bentick of a Samsung Galaxy S5, valued $40,000, two silver rings, valued $50,000 and a silver chain, valued $25,000.
Arthur pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Arthur’s attorney, Tiffany Jeffrey, stated that her client and Bentick had come to a settlement outside of court and that the complainant did not wish to go further with the matter. Subsequently, when Bentick appeared in court he did not address the settlement but stated that he wished to proceed with the criminal complaint.
Police prosecutor Arvin Moore objected to bail being granted based on the serious nature of the offence and the penalty that would be attached if Arthur were found guilty.
Magistrate Judy Latchman remanded the youth to prison and adjourned the matter until March 19th.
