An Albouystown woman was yesterday granted bail after she denied being in possession of half a pound of cannabis, which police say was found at her house.
Kimberly Jupiter, 21, of 277 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, was brought before Magistrate Leron Daly, who read the possession for trafficking charge to her in Georgetown.
The charge alleged that on March 7th, at 277 Independence Boulevard, Albouystown, Jupiter had 236 grammes (equivalent to half of a pound) of cannabis in her possession for trafficking.
Jupiter denied the charge.
The police prosecutor objected to the accused being granted bail, while noting that the cannabis was found at Jupiter’s home and that she claimed it either belonged to her brother or boyfriend.
However, attorney George Thomas, who represented the accused, told the court that his client told the police that the bag containing the drugs belonged to her reputed husband but they are yet to locate him.
He then made an application for bail, citing the special circumstances.
Magistrate Daly later granted the accused her release on $100,000 bail, despite the objection raised by the prosecutor.
The matter was then adjourned until April 4th, when it is expected to be heard by the Chief Magistrate.
