Rose Hall taxi driver charged with causing death, drunk driving

Patrick King, the taxi driver who police say struck and killed a Bloomfield, Corentyne man in a hit and run accident on Wednesday, was yesterday faced with four charges, including causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Guyana Police Force said King, 33, of 96 Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with causing the death of 54-year-old Donovan Baromasi by dangerous driving.

He was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failing to stop after an accident and failing to render assistance.

Police said King pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was placed on $1,000,000 bail on the causing death charge and self-bail on the others charges. Additionally, his driver’s licence was suspended until the determination of the case, which was adjourned until April 23rd for a report.
