Bail for plumber accused of stealing chain in violent robbery

A young plumber accused of stealing a woman’s gold chain was granted his release on $50,000 bail last Friday after denying the charge.

It is alleged that Kevin Roberts, 18, on March 13th, at Brickdam Road, robbed Karen Basdeo of a gold chain, valued $36,000, and at the time of, during or after used personal violence against her.

Roberts pleaded not guilty.

While the prosecutor objected to bail, noting that Basdeo had positively identified Roberts, the young man’s lawyer stated that Roberts did not give a statement to the police, he was not placed on an identification parade and the chain was not found in his possession.

Magistrate Leron Daly subsequently granted the man his release on $50,000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 13th.
