Accused in hotel room break-in released on $30,000 bail

Two men were yesterday released on $30,000 bail after they denied breaking and entering a Port Kaituma hotel room and stealing items valued over $100,000.

It is alleged that Christoph Methland, 30, and Leroy Savory, 26, between March 30th and March 31st, 2018, at Port Kaituma Waterfront, broke and entered Room 18 at the Amir Ally Hotel and stole a haversack, valued $3,000, $100,000 cash, a cellphone valued $6,000, and other items. The stolen items carried a total value of $124,200.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that only $36,000 in cash was recovered from the defendants. He made no objections to bail being granted but asked that conditions be attached.

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan placed the men on $30,000 bail each on condition that they report to the Port Kaituma Police Station every other Friday until completion of trial. The matter was adjourned until May 8th, when it will be called at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
