A 25-year-old miner died on Sunday afternoon after the pit he was working in caved in at Chinese Creek Backdam, Mazaruni River.
Dead is Kevin Adams, a resident of Linden. He was rushed to the Bartica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Stabroek News was told that the incident occurred around 2 pm on Sunday while Adams and one of his colleagues was working in the pit. His colleague managed to escape the tragedy.
In a brief statement, the police said that investigation revealed that Adams and another employee was working in the pit when it caved in. As a result, the release said Adams was “pinned and submerged”.
His body is currently at a mortuary waiting an autopsy.
