West Ruimveldt miner granted bail over fraudulent conversion

A city magistrate yesterday granted a miner $75,000 bail after he denied fraudulently converting $170,000.

It is alleged that Shawn Phipps, 48, of Lot 211 West Ruimveldt, between February 1, 2017, and June 30, 2017, at West Ruimveldt, being entrusted by James Daniels with $170,000 by falsely pretending that he was in a position to acquire three engine cylinders, fraudulently  converted same.

Phipps pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was later granted $75,000 by Magistrate Fabayo Azore and is due to make his next court appearance on April 25.
