Two soldiers hurt during paratrooping

Two soldiers have been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after an accident during one of their routines yesterday morning at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

According to a press release from the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), around 8:15 am two soldiers from the 31 Special Forces Squadron were carrying out a routine paratrooping training exercise when their parachutes became entangled. As a result, the two men fell from some distance.

They were subsequently referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where they are currently admitted and listed in  stable condition. They are still being evaluated to determine whether they suffered any serious injuries.

The two soldiers have been identified as 26-year-old Selwyn Cumberbatch and 24-year-old Keiron Stokes. Stabroek News was told that both men are expected to recover fully and as they only received minor injuries to their faces and about their bodies.
