Vendor loses over $200,000 in stock after NA market break-in

A New Amsterdam Market vendor has suffered over $200,000 in losses after her stall was broken into sometime between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Tabita Benjamin, 33, of Fort Ordinance, who has been selling in the market for over two years, discovered the break-in on Thursday morning. She said that after finding that most of her goods were gone, she discovered a board missing from the back of her enclosed stall.

The perpetrator(s) carted off a quantity of footwear, valued at over $120,000, a quantity of under garments, valued at almost $30,000, hair ties valued at $19, 200, towels valued at $10,000 and an assortment of other goods.

In total, Benjamin tabulated her losses at $231, 906.

Benjamin called the theft a “big blow” to her business.

She also noted that she was robbed at the end of last year of over $30,000 in items.

The break-in was reported to the market’s constabulary department as well as the police.
