A Chinese supermarket owner was yesterday charged with receiving $8 million in stolen foodstuff.
It is alleged that Xiu Lin between July 1st, 2017 and April 6th, 2018, at D’Urban Street, received from Ahmad Cox a quantity of foodstuff valued $8,000,000, knowing same to have been feloniously stolen or unlawfully obtained from Toucan Distributors.
Lin, through a translator, denied the allegation after it was read to him in a city court.
His attorney, Nekeisha Persaud, told the court that the man is the owner of a supermarket located on D’Urban Street.
Police prosecutor Arvin Moore told the court that the police, acting on information received, went to the accused’s place of business, where a quantity of foodstuff was seized.
After Moore made no objection, Magistrate Judy Latchman placed the man on $250,000 bail and adjourned the matter until April 30th.
