A playground which is situated between Kaikan Street and Well Road in North Ruimveldt has been restored and upgraded by University of Guyana Public Management students.

The students pursued the initiative as a community development project, a release from the Department of Public information (DPI) said.

The playground was commissioned yesterday morning in the presence of the Mayor of Georgetown, Patricia Chase-Green, Director of Sports, Christopher Jones, UG lecturer Donna Mc Kinnon and residents of the community.

Jones applauded the students and said, “it is important that young people have an opportunity to play or gather beyond sundown. One of the commitments that (the National Sports Commission) has made to the University students and that we have fulfilled is the donation of lights [for the playfield].”

The North Ruimveldt community ground which was once desolate is now fenced, levelled and outfitted with swings and other equipment for the benefit of the children of the community.
