Miner gets 18 months for beating wife with rolling pin

A miner was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in prison for beating his reputed wife with a rolling pin.

Collin Millington, 43, admitted to the charge which stated that he on May 5th at Austin Street, unlawfully wounded Jessica Fernandes.

Police prosecutor Arvin Moore stated that the complainant is the reputed wife of the accused and he is known to assault her when he is angry.

On the day in question the complainant was in the kitchen preparing breakfast when Millington came into the kitchen, picked up a rolling pin and dealt her several lashes about her body, she became scared and reported the matter to the police. She sustained lacerations to her arm and abdomen.

Prosecutor Moore told the court, when the police went to pick him up he told the officers “she should’ve get more”.

Magistrate Judy Latchman, citing the prevalence of domestic violence, sentenced the man to 18 months in prison.
