South Sophia mother charged with receiving stolen SIM card

A South Sophia mother of six was yesterday taken before a city magistrate for allegedly receiving a stolen SIM card.

The charge alleged that Alita Moore, 38, on April 14th at Stabroek Market received from persons unknown one Digicel SIM card knowing same to have been stolen.

The woman pleaded not guilty to the charge and stated that on the day in question she went to town to buy a cellphone and she was approached by a young man who wanted to sell her a phone. She purchased the phone from the man and told him she needed a SIM card, Moore stated that the man left her and returned a few minutes later with another young man and a SIM card. She said that she bought it from him as she was trying to save a dollar and she had no idea it was stolen.

The police prosecutor made no objections to bail being granted.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore then released the woman on her own recognisance.
