A joint charge was yesterday instituted against the three men accused of murdering America Street money changer Shawn Nurse, who was known as ‘Fabulous,’ during a robbery.

The joint charge was read to Kerwin Dos Santos, George Hope and Kacey Heyliger.

The new charge was instituted after a previous murder charge against only Dos Santos and Hope was withdrawn upon the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). This was also done in relation to a separate charge that was instituted against Heyliger for the murder.

In the courtroom of the Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown yesterday, the joint charge was read to the three accused. It stated that on February 4th, 2018, at America Street and Avenue of the Republic, Georgetown, in the company of others and armed with guns, they murdered Shawn Nurse.

The men were not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge.

Chief Magistrate McLennan subsequently transferred the case to the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.

In the courtroom of Magistrate Latchman, the matter was adjourned until June 8th for a report.

Nurse, 47, a father of three, of the South Ruimveldt Shopping Plaza, was shot once in the face, just under the left eye, during a robbery. The police had said that he was seated on a chair at the corner of America Street and Avenue of the Republic when an armed perpetrator approached him from a northerly direction with a weapon drawn and demanded that he hand over his money.
