Doctor robbed by bandits after making withdrawal from city bank

Two bandits last Monday intercepted and robbed Dr. Holly Alexander, the wife of former Registrar of the University of Guyana Vincent Alexander, of over half a million dollars in cash as well as other valuables shortly after she visited a city bank.

The attack took place around 1.15 pm on Monday at Norton and Bishop streets, Newburg Georgetown, while Alexander was on her    way home.

A police source said Alexander visited the Republic Bank branch at Camp and Robb streets, where she withdrew the cash.

She then stopped at a store along Brickdam in order to make a purchase and was proceeding along Bishop Street when the bandits, who were riding on motorcycles, reportedly stopped in front of her vehicle.

They held her at gunpoint and relieved her of her handbag, which contained the cash and other valuables.

The bandits also escaped with her cell phone and several important documents, such as her national ID card, bank cards, passport and driver’s licence.

A report was made to the police and several persons were interviewed as part of the ongoing probe.
