Soesdyke woman admits to strangling husband, cops say

A mother of three was yesterday arrested by the police, who say she has admitted to strangling her common-law husband to death during an altercation at their Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara house two weeks ago.

Dead is Julian Anthony Reberio, 32, a labourer of Soesdyke Back Road.

His wife was taken into custody in relation to his death yesterday.

Reberio died on May 13th.

Police said the woman had provided them with conflicting reports of what transpired until her confession yesterday.

The police said the 28-year-old mother of three had initially said that Reberio returned home intoxicated on the evening of May 13th and fell in the house, after which she rushed him to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he died.

However, during interrogation yesterday, the police said she retracted her story and told investigators that she and Reberio had an altercation and she strangled him.

Reberio was laid to rest last Thursday.

An autopsy was performed on his remains on May 18th and it revealed that he died as a result of asphyxiation due to compression injuries to the neck.

Anthony Alli, Reberio’s uncle, yesterday told Stabroek News that the family is seeking justice and is calling for the suspect to face the full force of the law.

“They argued a lot and the landlord heard that they were arguing on the night of the incident,” Alli said.

He said based on what he was initially told, Reberio was discovered lying motionless on the floor of the house floor.

He said the family became suspicious from the inception since Reberio’s body bore several marks, including on his neck and hands. His shoulder was also dislocated, Alli said.
