A Leopold Street carpenter was yesterday remanded to prison over three armed robbery charges and allegedly discharging a loaded firearm.

The first charge alleged that Akeem Rajkumar on April 30th at Leopold Street, in the company of others, being armed with a gun, robbed Rodwell Maynard of $89,000 cash, property of Damian Elliot.

The second charge stated that Rajkumar on the same date discharged a loaded firearm at Damian Elliot with intent to harm.

It was further alleged that on April 27th at Cross Street, in the company of others, being armed with a gun, he robbed Avril Craw of $85,000 cash.

Rajkumar on the same date, armed with a gun allegedly robbed Janelle Walter of a quantity of gold jewellery valued $320,000, a cellphone valued $50,000 and $60,000 cash, a total value of  $430,000.

Rajkumar denied all the allegations.

The prosecutor objected to bail being granted based on the serious nature of the offences and the fact that a firearm was used for the commissioning of the offences.

Magistrate Fabayo Azore then refused bail and adjourned the matter until June 20th.
