The lone suspect in the murder of Timehri youth Ronsley Clarke, who was fatally shot earlier this month at a birthday party in Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was arrested by the police on Thursday.

A police source informed Stabroek News yesterday that acting on intelligence received, the police arrested the suspect, who is known by the alias ‘Short Boss,’ in ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo).

The man, who has since been handed over to ranks of ‘C’ Division (East Coast Demerara), is said to be cooperating with investigators.

Clarke, 21, of Fire Station Road, Timehri, was shot twice about his body in full view of his friends on August 2nd.

The shooting occurred around 7.30 pm at ‘C’ Field, Sophia and is suspected to have been the result of an old grievance between the Clarke and the suspect.

This newspaper was previously told that the suspect and Clarke were among a group of persons who would regularly attend events held at the location.

One day prior to the shooting, they both attended another party and there was no exchange of words between them.

However, on the night in question, Clarke was with his girlfriend when the suspect allegedly whipped out a firearm and discharged several round in his direction.

Two of the bullets struck Clarke about his body and he subsequently collapsed.

The police were summoned and Clarke was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
