Odinga Greene arraigned on child rape charge

Odinga Greene

Former “coal pit” murder accused, Odinga Greene, was yesterday taken before a city court and charged with raping a child who was 13-years-old at the time of the alleged crime.

Greene, 41, of Station Street, Kitty, stood in the courtroom of Magistrate Leron Daly, who read the charge to him.

It is alleged that the accused, between November 1, 2016 and November 30, 2016, engaged in sexual penetration of a child below the age of 16.

The accused was later remanded and the matter adjourned until November 31.

On September 24, 2015, Greene was freed of the murder of Nazaline Mohamed . The judge had instructed the 12-member jury to return a formal verdict of not guilty, after he stated that the prosecution failed to make out a prima facie case against him.

It was the prosecution’s case that Greene murdered Mohammed between February 2, 2007, and February 12, 2007, after he picked her up from her East Ruimveldt home.

He was alleged to have taken her, in the company of another female, to Linden, where he allegedly killed her and removed all of her jewellery.

Prior to that, Greene, in 2004, was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of Sandra Harvey, who was found in a valley at Wisroc, Linden in 1999, with her hands tied behind her back, her mouth gagged and her body propped up against a tree stump.

Greene, however, appealed the verdict and won the right to a second trial.

Greene was freed at the end of the subsequent trial after it was found that the testimony of witnesses had been riddled with inconsistencies.
