An Upper Corentyne motorcyclist lost his life on Wednesday night after he rode into a cow, which was sitting along the Number 56 Village, Corentyne Public Road.
The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Nazamoodin, also known as ‘Akash,’ 25, a welder of Number 57 Village, Corentyne.
Nazamoodin left home around 7 pm to head to a nearby shop to purchase some items. It was while returning home on his motorcycle, CF 5607, some two hours later that he slammed into the cow, which had been sitting in the middle of the public road for several hours.
His brother, Lokenauth Nazamoodin, explained that after receiving news about the accident, he immediately rushed to the public road, where he saw another brother picking up the now dead man in an effort to transport him to the Skeldon Public Hospital.
However, the man, who sustained major head injuries, was pronounced dead on arrival.
According to residents, the cow was seated in the middle of the public road for several hours on Wednesday. “A canter was coming and the canter sway pon the cow… The cow was sitting middle the road and when he come to go home now, he hit the cow and then the cow get up and run,” a resident noted.
The cow collapsed a short distance away. Shortly after, two men were seen attempting to cut the brand from the cow. “The police come and see the two a them and them run gone and left down the knife,” the Number 56 Village, Corentyne resident said.
Stabroek News was told that the owner of the cow is suspected to be from the Number 56 Village, Corentyne.
Nazamoodin, who was well known in the area, is survived by his wife, two brothers and his parents.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be done today, while relatives noted that Nazamoodin will be laid to rest on Sunday.
