Mandela Avenue potter found dead in house

The decaying body of a popular Mandela Avenue, Georgetown potter was yesterday afternoon discovered at his home and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Dead is 55-year old Dorsett Small of BB4 Mandela Avenue, Georgetown. Small operates a pottery business, creating concretized sculptures of animals and plant pots. His family yesterday declined to comment on his death.

However, Stabroek News gathered that during the course of yesterday, a friend went to his home after not hearing from him for two days. The friend told reporters that calls made to Small went unanswered and as a result he decided to visit his home. Upon checking after scaling the fence, the friend said the doors to the house were locked. After being able to open the door he found Small in the house lying lifeless and immediately went to the police.

A guard nearby told Stabroek News of not seeing the man for two days. The woman noted that she saw him on Monday but during the course of Tuesday and Wednesday she did not observe him. She noted that no strange activity was observed by her or other guards during last two days.

After investigators conducted a forensic analysis of the scene, the family was allowed to access the house.

This newspaper learnt that no marks of violence were found on the man’s body.

While police confirmed the report of the man’s lifeless body being found, it was stated that they are awaiting the results of an autopsy to determine the way forward for the investigation.
