Auchlyne teen charged with murder

An Auchlyne Village, Corentyne teenager was yesterday remanded to the Sophia Juvenile Detention Centre, after being arraign-ed on a murder charge.

The lad, who told the court that he is 15 years old, appeared at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court yesterday, when he was charged with the murder of Desmond Sewdath. The matter was called in-camera.

The charge against the accused read that he, on Saturday, November 17, murdered Sewdath at Auchlyne Village, Corentyne.

The teen, who was unrepresented during his arraignment, was remanded to the Sophia Juvenile Detention Centre and is due to return to court on December 4.

A post-mortem examination done on Monday on the body of Sewdath, also known as “Bull”, 30, a labourer, of Lot 124 Whim Village, Corentyne, revealed that he died from shock and haemorrhaging due to a stab wound to his heart.

According to information gathered, Sewdath was in the process of leaving a rum shop in Auchlyne Village, where he, along with the accused, in the company of others, had been imbibing.

The accused was turned over to the police by his mother on Saturday afternoon after he visited her clothing stall.
