The file on the investigation of the twelve firemen accused of theft from crew members and passengers of a Fly Jamaica airplane that crashed landed at the CJIA earlier this month has been re-sent to the Police Legal Advisor, retired justice Claudette Singh for advice.
Police Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman yesterday told Stabroek News that the additional investigation was conducted as requested and the file was returned for advice.
After the file was initially sent for advice a week ago, Singh had asked the police to conduct further investigations and to offer clarity on seven points.
The dozen firemen who are accused have all been suspended, Fire Chief Marlon Gentle told this newspaper. An independent investigation at the fire service is still ongoing and a Board of Inquiry is probing the allegations against the firemen.
Hours after the firefighters responded to the crash landing, which occurred at around 2.45 am, the allegation was levelled against them.
During that preliminary investigation, one fireman came forward with some of the stolen items.
After a report was made to the police of personal belongings going missing, an investigation was launched.The firemen were released from police custody on $100,000 bail each.
