Labourer fined for stealing mirrors from cars

A labourer was yesterday fined a total of $30,000 after pleading guilty to three charges of theft.

Ricardo Persaud, 34, admitted that on August 20th, 2018, in the vicinity of the Bank of Guyana, he stole a car’s side-view mirror, valued $26,000, which was the property of Bank of Guyana.

He also admitted that on July 4th, 2018, outside Hand in Hand, he stole a side-view mirror valued $12,000. He also admitted that on September 27th, 2018, in the vicinity of the Bank of Guyana, he stole two side-view mirrors, valued at $53,000 in total.

Persaud pleaded guilty to the charges after they were read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.

Persaud told the court that he was extremely hungry and was asking for food in the area. Persaud was fined a total of $30,000 with an alternative of 21 days in jail if he cannot pay the fine.
