Investigators in ‘G’ Division are continuing to probe a break and enter and larceny which occurred at the Charity Post Office sometime between last Friday evening and Saturday morning during which some $2.2M in cash was stolen.

One suspect has since been arrested for questioning.

Divisional Commander Khali Pareshram yesterday told Stabroek News that the suspect who was arrested on Sunday afternoon in Linden remains in custody.

He was being questioned up to yesterday afternoon.

While details surrounding the incident remain sketchy, this newspaper was informed that the perpetrator/s gained entry into the building by prising open the door.

Once inside, they apparently torched a safe which contained the cash and escaped.

At the time of the incident, there was no security presence at the location.

The money, according to reports was to be used for the distribution of old age pensions.
