Cop charged with unlawful possession of ammo

Romell Cato

A police constable was yesterday granted bail after he was accused of illegally having several rounds of ammunition in his possession.

Romell Cato, of Berbice, was read the charge that on December 1st, at Brickdam, George-town, he had a total of 14 rounds of ammunition in his possession. They comprised 13 .223 rounds and a single .38 round.

Cato denied the charge after it was read to him by Magistrate Faith McGusty in Georgetown.

Police prosecutor Seon Blackman objected to the accused being granted bail based upon the seriousness of the crime.

The unrepresented accused was later granted his release on $100,000 bail.

His next hearing is scheduled for December 14th, when the matter is expected to be heard by the Chief Magistrate.
