Doctors are attempting to save three of Melicia Andrews’ fingers, which were almost severed from her right hand after she was brutally chopped last week at Swan Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
Janet Domingo, the injured woman’s mother, yesterday told Stabroek News that Andrews suffered the majority of her injuries to her right hand, which she used to block the chops that were inflicted on her by her now dead partner, Ian English.
She has since undergone a series of surgeries on her hand, with the latest being done on Tuesday. She is now a patient in the Female Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
The attack on Andrews, 31, by English, resulted in her sustaining chops to her neck, hands, feet and head.
Andrews is also unable to fully move at this point.
However, Domingo said doctors have informed the family that her spinal cord is not damaged and she will be able to walk again. “She does move her hands and feet lil bit but she can’t move like to walk or get up and so as yet,” Domingo explained.
English, 38, a labourer with whom Andrews reportedly shared an abusive relationship for several years, hanged himself after the attack.
Residents of the area had related that English lived with his wife in Kuru Kuru but would stay at Andrews’ home from time to time. He was the father of one of Andrews’ seven children.
The police said their preliminary investigations revealed that the attack unfolded at the Lot 22 Swan Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway home of Domingo, who had earlier been counselling English.
