The police are investigating the death of a youth, whose lifeless body was discovered along the Kairuni Public Road, Linden- Soesdyke Highway on Wednesday morning following a suspected hit and run accident.
Dead is Mark Anthony Jerome, who was 19-year-old.
Stabroek News understands that the youth died sometime between 9.45 pm on Tuesday, when he was last seen alive and 1 am on Wednesday, when his body was found.
An autopsy that was conducted yesterday revealed that Jerome died as a result of multiple crush injuries. As a result, a police source said his death is being treated as the result of a hit and run accident.
This newspaper was told that Jerome was last seen alive on Tuesday evening at his home.
His lifeless body was discovered several hours after he was reportedly seen drinking. It bore several injuries, including to his abdomen, back, legs, arms and head. At the time, he was only clad in a pair of jeans.
The body was taken to the Linden Hospital, where Jerome was pronounced dead on arrival.
