36 arrested in city cordon and search operations

A total of 36 persons, including 10 foreign nationals, were arrested yesterday morning after the police conducted several cordon and search operations in the North Cummingsburg and Kingston communities in Georgetown.

The foreign nationals were later released after checks revealed that their travel documents were in order.

Police Public Relations Officer Jairam Ramlakhan said the operations lasted for about three hours and saw the involvement of 108 ranks.

In addition to the arrests, motorcycles and electronics, including television sets, which are suspected to have been stolen or illegal obtained were also found during the operations.

“A Rosemary Lane resident was found in possession of 88 grammes of cannabis packaged in small-sized zip lock bags, two motorcycles and a flat screen television suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained,” Ramlakhan added.
