Bandits grab $2M in cash from NA store owners

Three men, including two who were each armed with a shotgun, robbed the owners of a New Amsterdam, Berbice store of over $2 million in cash on Friday evening.

Police have confirmed that the attack occurred at about 7.30 pm at the Dong Fang Trading Store, which is located at 12 Strand, New Amsterdam.

According to persons who were present in the area, the bandits wore rags to conceal their identities during the attack.

While Sunday Stabroek was told that the store owners and their staff were present during the robbery, they declined to speak with this publication yesterday morning.

However, according to a police source, six persons have since been taken into custody for questioning.

The store, which is operated by Chinese nationals, has been in operation for several years. It is located in one of New Amsterdam’s main commercial areas.
