Tuschen labourer dies in hit and run

A labourer of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo died yesterday after a motor vehicle drove over him on the One Mile Linden Public Road. The fatal incident occurred at around 3 am, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Intiaz Muhammad, 25.

Police last night said Muhammed was lying on the southern side of the road when motor vehicle HC 8814 drove over him.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that hire car HC 8814 was proceeding west along the southern side of One Mile Public Road when it was alleged by the driver that a vehicle  proceeding in the opposite direction with bright lights blinded his vision causing him to drive over Muhammad, police said.

Muhammad was picked up by an ambulance and rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

According to the police, the 22- year-old driver of Wisroc Housing Scheme failed to stop and drove away.

Police managed to later arrest the driver and he is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.
