Seventy-five pupils near closed sugar estates receive help via Ram and McRae

Seventy-five pupils from three primary schools in  the vicinity of the closed sugar estates have received donations of school supplies, food hampers and cash through an initiative spearheaded by Ram & McRae, Chartered Accountants.

A release yesterday from Ram and McRae said that the three schools are the Patentia Primary on the West Bank of Demerara and Skeldon Primary and Rose Hall Canje Primary on the Corentyne.

The ages of the children, who were selected by the Head Teachers of the respective schools, ranged between five years and ten years. The exercise was carried out in the last week of school before the Christmas break and followed a similar event at Patentia Primary School earlier this year.

Ram and McRae said that of the seventy-five pupils, twenty-one were given bicycles as a result of the distance between their homes and their schools.

The estimated value of the donations of approximately $2.5m benefitted from a number of clients and friends of Ram & McRae and it acknowledged Republic Bank, National Milling Company Limited, Sterling Products Ltd, Bakewell, Mattai’s Food Market, Creations December 17, 2018 and Toucan Industries Limited for their generous contributions.

The presentations were made to the students by partners and members of staff of the firm and saw many parents in attendance, the release said. The Heads acknowledged the need for many more such initiatives.  They also lamented how difficult it was to identify twenty-five needy cases out of scores of similarly placed children in their areas, the release said.
