WPA activist passes away

The WPA has announced the unexpected passing of its activist, Reekahraj Jaikaran Poonai, popularly known as Kajo, of 56 Village on the Corentyne. He was 61 years old.

Poonai joined the WPA in 1974 and quickly became a grass-roots organiser and foot soldier of the movement, according to the WPA press release.

He represented the APNU at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Region Six from 2011 to 2015 and again in 2018 for the local government elections, the release added.

Reekahraj Jaikaran Poonai will be missed for what he was, a simple and knowing friend and an honourable and trusted colleague, the WPA said.
