Teen faces separate murder charge in Leopold St stabbing

A joint charge against three teenagers accused of stabbing a man to death at Leopold and Lombard Streets last month, was withdrawn and separate charges instituted.

Last month, John McKenzie, 19, was charged along with two 15-year-olds, for the murder of a man identified only as ‘Buckman’. It is alleged that on November 17th at Leopold and Lombard Streets, they murdered the man.

The joint charge was however, withdrawn, and McKenzie was charged separately for the offence at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court was told by the prosecutor that two separate preliminary inquiries will be conducted as the charge against the 15-year-olds will be heard in the Children’s Court.

McKenzie was not required to plead to the capital offence and was remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. The matter has been adjourned until January 10th next year.

Previous reports indicate that the teens murdered the man after he stopped buying drugs from them. According to the police, the deceased was stabbed multiple times at around 11pm on the day in question. The man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
