A total of six persons are now in police custody, after they were allegedly found in possession of unlicensed handguns and live rounds, during three separate stop and search operations.

The police yesterday said that the operations were conducted between Friday evening and yesterday morning, by ranks on patrol duties in divisions A and D.

The first weapon was found around 7.30hrs Friday, at Craig New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), in the possession of a 40-year-old labourer, of Buzz Bee Dam, Craig, EBD.

The second weapon, along with 14 rounds of ammunition, was found about 9.30hrs in Third Street, Agricola, EBD. A 22-year-old resident of Curtis Street, Albouystown was arrested in relation to this find.

The third weapon, together with seven rounds of ammunition, was allegedly found early yesterday morning on one of four persons who were intercepted in a vehicle at the western end of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.

The offenders are likely to be charged in the new week.
