Albouystown youth remanded over illegal firearm

Dapper Johnson

An Albouystown youth was yesterday remanded to prison, after being hit with two firearm possession charges, following an appearance before a city court.

Dapper Johnson, 22, of Curtis Street, Albouystown, denied a charge which stated that he, on December 21, at Third Street, Agricola, had in his possession a 9mm pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence. He also denied having in his possession 14 live rounds of ammunition without having a firearm licence.

Johnson appeared before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly and was denied bail after objections by Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh.

According to the prosecutor’s facts, on the said date, police were on patrol on the East Bank when they saw Johnson acting in a suspicious manner. A search was conducted on him and the firearm was found. He was then arrested and charged.

Johnson was remanded to prison and was told to return to court on January 7 for his next hearing.
