T&T Govt pays Cuffie’s $2.4m medical bill

Government Minister Maxie Cuffie

(Trinidad Express) Government Minister Maxie Cuffie’s medical treatment and recovery has cost the Trinidad and Tobago taxpayers $2.49 million.

Responding to a question from Caroni East MP Dr Tim Gopeesingh on Cuffie’s general state of health and the cost of his medical management, Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley gave a breakdown of the costs in the Parliament yesterday.

The Prime Minister said the Government intervened to assist Cuffie at a time when his life was being threatened.

“The Government, through the normal proceedings available to Cabinet ministers, paid a bill…I think it has been paid, or incurred an expense on his behalf, at St Clair Medical, in the sum of $980,263.69,” said Rowley.
