(Trinidad Express) A pregnant woman was among three people who made an appearance at the Port of Spain Court yesterday charged with the shooting death of a consultant pharmacist at his Diego Martin home earlier this year.
The woman, together with her two co-accused stood before acting Chief Magistrate Maria Busby Earle-Caddle charged with the murder of 65-year-old Nicholas George during an attempted car-jacking at his home in early March.
The accused are: Family Court employee Shanice Alleyne, 25, Runako Mayers, 19, and Christon “Ton” Wallace, who all have addresses in Morvant. Upon their appearance before the magistrate, none of them were called upon to enter a plea as the charge was laid indictably.
Following the reading of the charge, defence attorney Christian Chandler made an application for disclosure on behalf of the woman. He also indicated to the magistrate that his client was 12 weeks pregnant.
In response to the application, the court’s police prosecutor stated that some evidential material will be disclosed by Friday.
Attorneys Shane Guerra and Shirvani Ramkissoon appeared alongside Chandler for the other two accused. The charge was laid following investigations led by ASP Suzette Martin of the Region I Homicide Bureau of Investigations.
Directions for the laying of the charge was received from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on Monday. Alleyne will next appear in court on May 29, while Mayers and Wallace will next appear on June 11.
On the night of March 3, George, who lived at Wendy Fitzwilliam Boulevard, was approached by a group of men who attempted to relieve him of his vehicle. During the confrontation, he was shot once. He was taken to hospital by the Emergency Health Services (EHS) but subsequently died.
