T&T woman shot dead outside home

 (Trinidad Express) A Petit Valley woman was killed execution-style outside her home early yesterday.

Melanie Jones, 29, was shot once in the head at Second Street, Sparrow Drive, Simeon Road.

Police were told that Jones arrived at her one room apartment around 10.30 p.m. Thursday.

At around 2 a.m. neighbours heard an explosion, and when they checked minutes later, found Jones dead on the street.

There was a wound to the left side of the head, and a spent shell nearby.

A district medical officer pronounced her dead at the scene. Jones was employed with the Community Enhancement Community-Based Environmental Protection and Enhancement Programme (CEPEP).

She is the 17th woman killed for the year, and the 11th person killed since Sunday, according to an Express tally.

In an unrelated incident, a Malick man was shot and killed while in a hammock on Thursday.

Patrick John, 27, also known as Ratty, was struck in the head and died at hospital.

At about 12.35 p.m. yesterday, NED task force respond to a wireless communication that residents heard gunshots at Upper Seventh Avenue.

John was in a hammock outside his home when a man came up to him at close range and opened fire.

A resident took him to the Port of Spain General Hospital where John died.
