(Trinidad Express) A 16 year old Carenage boy has been charged with the murder of pensioner Narine Surijlal, who was shot and robbed while on a fishing trip.
The boy was expected to appear in the Port of Spain Children’s Court yesterday.
He is also charged with three offences of robbery with violence, assault with intent to rob, and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The charges were laid following investigations by Ag ASP Suzette Martin and PC Simeon Ryan of Homicide Bureau I.
Surijlal, 60, of Brazil Lome Trace, Brazil Village, was on an overnight fishing with a group of people at Pier II, Chaguaramas when around 2.20 a.m. three armed assailants approached the group and announced a robbery.
Surijlal attempted to escape, when one of the gunmen opened fire.
He was shot in the neck and was taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital.
The pensioner was released from the hospital on May 4.
However the next day he fell ill and was taken to the Arima District Hospital, where he died.
The teenager, who has other matters before the court, was ‘reporting in’ at the Four Roads Police Station on May 4 when he was arrested by homicide detectives.
He was charged with the killing and other offences on Sunday following instructions by the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard.
