Man charged with robbery, rape of American tourists at a Jamaica resort

(JAMAICA OBSERVER) Several criminal charges have been laid against an entertainment coordinator who is accused of raping two female guests at Riu Reggae Hotel in St James.

The accused, 24-year-old Demar Dowe Scott otherwise called ‘Ninja’ of Comfort district in Manchester, has been charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, two counts each of assault with intent to rob, rape and grievous sexual assault.

He is scheduled to attend the St James Parish Court on Wednesday.

Scott is accused of forcibly enterinv the hotel room of the two American women and brandished a firearm before sexually assaulting them about 11:15 pm on September 27.

It is further reported that one of the women got hold of the weapon and shot him before he escaped. Following investigations Scott was arrested and subsequently charged.

Scott is to also face identification parades in relation to six rape cases in Mandeville last year, chief of police in Manchester, Superintendent Wayne Cameron told a Manchester Chamber of Commerce forum late last Thursday.

Scott has been on the Manchester police’s wanted list for some time, with a cash reward offered for information on his whereabouts.
