Jamaica: Two taxi drivers amass over 1500 unpaid traffic tickets

(Jamaica Observer) The police’s Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB) today nabbed two Corporate Area taxi drivers who reportedly have amassed over 1,500 outstanding traffic tickets between them.

According to the police, one driver has 772 tickets while the other has 751 outstanding.

Commanding Officer of the recently established PSTEB, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Calvin Allen told OBSERVER ONLINE that the two public passenger vehicle (PPV) operators are now in police custody.

The men are to face the court shortly, SSP Allen said.

Allen used the opportunity to warn motorists with outstanding tickets to make an effort to clear them up, reasoning that the Government facilitated two amnesties for them to get a clean slate and “they failed to take them up and so they will have to face the consequences”.
