(Jamiaca Observer) A wedding reception on the grounds of a popular restaurant came to an abrupt end after a shooting incident left the operator of the music system dead and a close family member of the operator of the facility shot and injured in Rock, Trelawny Friday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Paul Campbell, 45, a computer technician and music selector of Lot 315 Florence Hall, Trelawny.
Meanwhile, a 38-year-old photographer of a Montego Bay, St James address, who was also shot, has been admitted in hospital.
The shootings were sparked when the operator of the facility requested that Campbell turn down the volume of the music that he was playing, when an altercation developed.
The son of the restaurant operator who came to his mother’s defence allegedly shoved Campbell, who was said to have lost his balance and fell backwards, over a flower pot.
This infuriated Campbell who got up and moved towards the photographer, but was prevented by two women, including his friend and the businesswoman who got between the two men.
The music operator reportedly then walked away, pulled his Glock 19 9mm pistol from his waistband and turned and shot the 38-year-old, who fell to the ground.
The injured man’s mother stepped towards Campbell who allegedly pointed his gun at her. Thereupon, her injured son lifted himself from the ground and pulled a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol from his waistband and fired at Campbell, hitting him.
Campbell fell to the ground clutching on his firearm.
He died on the spot while the restaurant operator’s son was rushed to the Falmouth Public General Hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.
Members of the wedding party were not physically harmed.
Members of the Falmouth police station are investigating.
When the Jamaica Observer visited the facility Friday night, crime scene investigators were combing the scene.
The tables in the area where the wedding reception was scheduled to be hosted were still immaculately set.
The adjoining restaurant also closed its doors early.
