Trinidad: Cops call for witnesses to cyclist’s gruesome death

(Sunday Express) Police officers are asking eye-witnesses to come forward and identify a red band maxi taxi and its driver, which left the scene of a road traffic accident which claimed the life of a 64-year-old El Dorado man on Saturday afternoon.

Leroy Calliste, was killed around 5:45pm as he was riding his bicycle along the Priority Bus Route (PBR) in the vicinity of WASA, El Dorado.

Calliste was struck by a white Lexus motor vehicle. His body was propelled through the windshield and into the cabin of the car.

The driver of the Lexus told police he was proceeding east along the PBR behind a small red band maxi taxi, when on reaching the vicinity of WASA, the maxi taxi pulled to the left onto the shoulder and stopped.

He said as he was about to pass the maxi taxi, a cyclist rode out from in front of the maxi onto the lane and came into contact with his vehicle. The cyclist died on the scene. The maxi taxi then drove off.
