(TRINIDAD EXPRESS) A man is in police custody after he attempted to sexually assault a woman at the Scarborough Library in Tobago shortly before noon yesterday.

According to police reports, the woman went to use the wash room and, while in the toilet area, a young man knocked on the door.

When the woman asked for an identification of the person, there was no answer. When she opened the door, the man then attempted to force himself on her and she began to scream.

The screams attracted the attention of Amalgamated Security guards, who ran to the aid of the woman, while the man attempted to adjust his trousers.

The man was detained by the security personnel until police officials arrived.

The library was then closed for the rest of the day.

In confirming the incident in a release to the media, the Tobago Library Services Unit stated: “All members of staff were immediately invited to a mandatory debriefing session, conducted by social worker Carlette Groome-Matthew and Donnalyn Harry from the Community Social Services Division of the Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development.”

The library will resume normal operations today, the release added.
