Heavy rainfall sees flooding across Trinidad

Flooding along the S.S Erin Road, Penal.

(Trinidad Express) Torrential rainfall fueled by the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) affected all fourteen Municipalities on Thursday.

The most severely impacted was the Penal/Debe Regional Corporation.

Prolonged overnight rains caused flooding in the Quinam area. One family of seven persons has been evacuated to a nearby school for the night, as three feet of water entered and surrounded their home. They are expected to return to their home tomorrow when the water subsides.

Somewhere under this is Suchit Trace, Penal.

In the region of Sangre Grande, the Oropune River is near creating point, and there have been reports of street flooding. No household flooding has been reported in that vicinity.

The Princes Town Disaster Management Unit has reported river swells coming from the Moruga area. These swells are likely to affect the Penal/Debe region tomorrow.

The fourteen (14) Disaster Management Units continue to monitor the weather and resulting effects, and are ready to respond to any reports received. Citizens are reminded to take the necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and protect property.
