Trinidad: Iman among 7 arrested in connection with mosque assault, kidnapping & robbery

(Trinidad Guardian) Po­lice have ar­rest­ed the imam of a Cara­po mosque in con­nec­tion with an al­leged as­sault, kid­nap­ping and rob­bery in­ci­dent last week.

Cen­tral Di­vi­sion po­lice said the imam was among sev­en peo­ple ar­rest­ed Sat­ur­day night fol­low­ing a com­plaint made by the vic­tim.

The man, a Princes Town res­i­dent, told po­lice he went to the Cara­po mosque last Wednes­day morn­ing to meet a man he knew. How­ev­er, he al­leged that when he fin­ished meet­ing with the man and he left, two oth­er men en­tered and as­sault­ed him.

The men then al­leged­ly beat him about the body, tied him up and took the keys to his car. He was al­leged­ly blind­fold­ed and bun­dled in­to an­oth­er ve­hi­cle and lat­er dropped off at the O’meara In­dus­tri­al Es­tate, Ari­ma.

The man sub­se­quent­ly made a re­port to po­lice and was tak­en to hos­pi­tal for treat­ment.

Cen­tral Di­vi­sion ar­rest­ed the sus­pects dur­ing an an­ti-crime ex­er­cise in Cara­po Sat­ur­day night. The vic­tim’s car was al­so seized dur­ing the ex­er­cise.

The sus­pects will be placed on iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pa­rades this week. More on this sto­ry as in­for­ma­tion comes to hand.
