Trinidad: Nude body found by hunters may be missing 19-year-old mom

Chaguanas resident Amy Leslie James

(Trinidad Guardian) Police are now seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the body of a woman found by hunters in Santa Cruz on Saturday.

However, police believe it may be the body of missing Chaguanas resident Amy Leslie James, a 19-year-old mother of two young boys who was reported missing two weeks ago by relatives.

Although police will have to wait on relatives to identify the body and an autopsy to determine the cause of death, they say a tattoo on James fit the description of one given to them by her relatives.

Police said a group of hunters found the woman’s nude body in bushes just off Santa Barbara Boulevard, Santa Cruz, around 3 pm Saturday. The hunters immediately contacted the police.

Officers who responded said the body was found in a crouched position with a plastic bag over the head. Female clothing was found nearby. A tattoo of a heart matching the description of one given to them by one of James’ relatives led police to believe it may be her. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James and police relatives will visit soon to identify the body.

James was last seen by family members last Sunday night when she left home. When she did not return the following day relatives reached out to family and friends on social media seeking her whereabouts and subsequently made a report to the Chaguanas Police Station.

More on this story as information comes to hand.
